University of Chester Student CFD Training

October 29, 2015

Menatech Limited recently provided six University of Chester chemical engineering placement students with an introduction to applied Computational Fluid Dynamics in order to demonstrate how it can be used to simulate real life chemical engineering problems. This included initial software training, simulation and comparison to existing university laboratory experiments, production of tutorials for future teaching and finally an application to a real-life problem.

Chester Hydropower Simulation

October 28, 2015

Menatech Limited recently simulated the University of Chester’s Hydro project. This innovation-simulation-realisation showcase involving an advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation was carried out to obtain an early appreciation of the velocities and current direction in a typical river configuration and further work is under way to add additional features such as sluices, fish pass and the proposed turbines. The site was previously the headquarters of the Shell Technology Centre for 75 years.

Paper Published at 7th International Conference on BWM

Work on Concept Hydropower Turbine Initiated

January 15, 2014

We have been heavily involved in the conceptual stage of a new type of novel energy conversion device for hydropower applications. The twin contra-rotating tidal turbine initially developed for bi-directional tidal flows has been reconfigured for unidirectional flows. This has led to a substantial increase in efficiency.

Filter Test Unit Designed & Manufactured

July 27, 2013

Using rapid prototyping methods and techniques we have quickly designed and manufactured a filter test unit that allows several variations of filter screen and filter cleaning nozzle to be easily tested. This allowed rapid optimisation of the self-cleaning ability of the filter.

Bi-directional Tidal Turbine Testing at Marintek, Norway

Menatech Limited is currently overseeing the testing of a novel counter rotating tidal turbine at Marintek, Norway. The device has been installed in a dedicated low pressure cavitation tunnel with flow velocities from 0 to 18 m/s allowing the full range of testing to be carried out.
